In his new track, Overcome, Tampa Bay Area artist, Imperial takes classic elements from the foundations of hip-hop and presents them in a new light during dark times.

From the beginning of the track, the hard-hitting boom-bap loop circles a blues piano riff setting the stage for a working-man’s blues scenario. In hard and uncertain times, we find the comfort we need in a classic sound. The genuineness that listeners feel when they hear Imperal’s music is consoling. We feel that he is with us, in his lyrics, working hard, pushing through the critics, overcoming obstructions and helping you push yourself to be who you are meant to be.

Essentially, the track breathes a rhythm of nostalgic familiarity while simultaneously showing us a way forward. With each inhale, Imperial takes in influences from Black Thought to Wu-Tang Clan. He exhales a relevant homily of possibility and achievement like a modern day beat poet. In essence the track tells us that Life is hard work but, we don’t need to live in defeat. We can, and will, overcome.
